BEACHES OF ATHENS

Until recently, rumors had the beaches near Athens dirty” or "polluted". Today, this is completely untrue. The beaches of Attica are absolutely suited for swimming according to the authorities and the process of biological cleaning leaves no doubt. Athens has the privilege of a variety of beaches, open or organized, with east part of Attica sea sides to be preferred by the Athenians.

Starting from the closest one to the city, the Public Beach of Alimos is surrounded by the costal road. A big number of swimmers are attracted to the Beach of Voula Alkyoni, awarded with the blue flag of E.E.U., indicating its excellent condition.

The beach Asteras in Vouliagmeni is one of the more cosmopolitan – and most expensive – beach of Attica, also awarded a blue flag. A little further south, Kavouri is very quaint. Saronis and Varkiza (with a blue flag) follow up and Lagonisi, where the famous Grand Resort complex is located, of the most luxurious vacation solutions during the summer months (with a blue flag, as well).

The largest pole of attraction for the Athenians is the eastern side of Attica. Access from downtown is through Marathonos Avenue. The list of East Attica beaches (from North to South) is long: Galazia Akti (Blue Coast), Marathonas, Sxoinias, Zouberi, Agios Andreas, Kokkino Limanaki, Rafina Beach, Porto Rafti and many other surpass the E.E.U. standards and offer every kind of entertainment, from family to social.
