EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT

An important problem in the periphery of Attica is the high percentage of unemployment that surpasses the national average. More specifically, the amount of unemployment in the periphery of Attica amounts to 12,1% and it is higher than the corresponding national one, that amounts to 10,25% (1997). During the last few years the said amount shows a tendency to stability.

More specifically, the amount of unemployment in the year 1993 was 12%, while on 1997 it was increased by 0,1% (the corresponding national unemployment percentages are 9,7% and 10,3%). The periphery of Attica took up the 44% of the total unemployment of the country on 1997, while the said percentage was 46% on 1993.

It is a remarkable fact that Attica absorbs the 78.8% of the unemployed population of the country, holders of Master or PhD (over 95% of the unemployed men and about 50% of women), the 47.6% of the unemployed that are holders of a university degree and 54.6% of the unemployed with a superior technical school degree.
