USEFUL INFORMATION
FIRST CEMETERY OF ATHENS
Nearing the First Cemetery of Athens, one immediately feels the temperature difference (especially during the summer nights).
Tens of trees (mainly cypress and pine), oxygenize the air in a way obviously more useful to the living, but mainly create a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
Besides being a place of final rest and an important “lung” of the city, the First Cemetery is an exhibition area of excellent sculptures and the burial place of many famous personalities of the last 200 years, such as Harilaos Trikoupis, Theodoros Kolokotronis, Kostis Palamas, Odysseas Elytis, Giorgos Elytis and Melina Mercouri.
