FUTURE METRO EXPANSIONS

The Metro network is continuously expanding and is already in the advanced phase of the further expansion of Line 3 (Egaleo - Airport) toward Haidari, 1.5 km long with the addition of a new Station.

Simultaneously, the municipality of Peristeri, one of the largest municipalities in the country, will acquire two new Metro Stations. Specifically, today the projects of the Peristeri and Anthoupoli Stations are in progress. Furthermore, work on the unification and the remodeling of the Peristeri Square is taking place under the same contract. The project of expansion of Line 2 toward Elliniko will add to the Metro network of Athens 5.5 km of underground rails and four new Stations (Ilioupolis, Alimos, Argyroupoli and Elliniko).

The constructions of the three new Stations for Line 3 (Nomismatokopio, Holargos and Agia Paraskevi) are now completed. Under the same contract, work on a Transfer Station is under construction at the Nomismatokopio Station, which is the first Metro Station on Mesogeion Avenue for those coming from Agia Paraskevi, Mesogeia and the East Coast of Attica. It will serve transfers to and from bus lines and will have a capacity of 630 parking places.

The Metro of Athens is expanding toward Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Maniatika and Piraeus, with six new Stations and 7.6 klm of underground rails. Plans are in the works for the construction of the new Line 4 (Alsos Veikou-Panepistimio-Katehaki-Marousi) with a length of 20.9 klm and 20 Stations. At the same time, alternative means of financing are under examination.
