It is certain that the population growth of the capital has obviously been affected by the en masse inflow of economic immigrants during the last decade, especially from the countries of the Balkans. According to the last inventory of 2001 the number of the foreigners in Attica amounts to 376.732 that is, 10% over the total actual population of Attica.

It has to be noted that the total number of persons of foreign nationality that live in Greece amounts to 796.713 (not including the persons with double nationality), so it is easily deducted that in the periphery of Attica lives the 47.2% of foreigners in Greece.

The citizenship that is found most often in the periphery of Attica is the Albanian one, as the Albanians in Attica amount to 206.433 number which corresponds to the 54.7% of foreigners in Attica, but also to the 5.5% of the total population of Attica. Besides, it has to be noted that in the periphery of Attica live persons from 235 countries of the world.
