THE NATIONAL KAPODISTRIAN UNIVERSITY
FOUNDED: Established in 1837 and was the first University in the entire Eastern Mediterranean region. It was originally named the "Othomaniko Panepistimio" and was made up of the School of Theology, the School of Law and School of Arts. In 1904, the School of Arts was broken down into 2 schools – that of the School of Arts and the School of Sciences (which also houses the School of Physics, Math and Pharmaceuticals). The united and ever increasing demand for the realization of University studies led to the decision implement entrance exams for all of the school beginning from the academic year 1927-28.
