About

This summer, the Archaeological Museum of Poros is hosting Alekos Kyrarini's periodical exhibition "On a Tomb". The exhibition is organized by the Citronne Gallery in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands, within the framework of a collaboration of the last eleven years.

The exhibition aims to highlight its continuity and timelessness
Art, projecting an "interpretive" point of view, a complementary perspective, as proposed by a contemporary artist.

The exhibition presents fifteen works of mixed technique, whose subject matter has obvious references to the relief representations of the Attic epitaph columns of the classical period. The works are dominated by archetypal figures, which are depicted in pedimented temples, surrounded by floral decoration. Its architectural organization
painting space, the simplicity of the design, the absence of perspective and shading, the limited color palette and the use of established motifs are elements that directly refer to the ancient Greek artistic tradition. At the same time, influences from
Western European modernism, as the motifs do not simply frame the performances as decorative elements, but are involved in them and often take the lead, creating a whole that is ultimately more abstract than narrative.

Alekos Kyrarinis in this section describes the unbroken continuity of time. It refers lyrically to the relationship between the living and the dead, to the need for a living, eternal memory that keeps the sleeping present.
