About

Experience an authentic trip to Hungary filled with music! The Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, beloved by the Athenian audience, comes to the Christmas Theater for the first time and brings its great musical tradition born in the capital of Hungary, to the diamond of the Danube! The river may divide Budapest in two, but it is also what gives the city its incomparable beauty!

This wonderful city gave birth to the instinct, explosive temperament and spring energy of the world's greatest gypsy symphony orchestra! 100 incredible artists bring us the soul of the gypsy people, a people who play music as naturally as they breathe.

The name of the Orchestra in Hungarian is "Szaztagu Ciganyzenekar", which means "100-member Gypsy Orchestra": 100 musicians who play instinctively, without sheet music, far from any protocol. The musicians improvise, intervene and make variations without ever betraying the compositions – on the contrary, they enrich them. They play with the freedom of a spontaneous gypsy celebration, but also the precision and absolute timing of a Viennese classical ensemble.

The Orchestra features the "cream of the crop" of Hungarian gypsy musicians and mixes traditional gypsy music with masterpieces of the classical repertoire, played in a unique way.

In the first part of the concert, dressed in Hungarian gypsy costume, the members of the Orchestra present gypsy melodies by Bela Radics, Grigoras Dinicu, Ferenc Herkel and Vittorio Monti. In the second part, in tuxedos, the musicians perform great classical works by Johannes Brahms, Georges Bizet, Frantz Liszt, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Jacques Offenbach, Pablo de Sarasate and Johann Strauss Father and Son.
