About

The Trojans, the only surviving tragedy of the Euripidean trilogy about the Trojan War, was taught in 415 BC. in Megala Dionysia. The play was written shortly after the destruction of Milos in 416 BC, when the Athenians, with inhuman brutality, killed all the adult men of Milos and sold the women and children into slavery.

Euripides attempts to warn of the consequences of the indecency of the victors and to remind of the importance of remaining human, away from the illusion of omnipotence caused by ephemeral victories. In the Trojans, the poet highlights the human dimension of the enemy and, focusing on the greatness of the women of Troy, highlights the power that makes man persist even after the disaster.

The director Christos Sougaris, awarded by the Union of Greek Theater Critics with the "New Theater Creator" award for 2018, responsible for the artistic programming of the Greek Theater of Athens, presents us this year with a subversive reading of Euripides' masterpiece.
