  1. Question: What are the stores' operating hours?

    Monday, Wednesday and Saturday: 09:00-15:00
    Tuesday and Thursday: 09:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00
    Major Department Stores and Super Markets:
    Monday-Friday: 09:00-21:00 and Saturday: 09:00-18:00
    Sundays and Holidays: Closed.

    Ermou Street is considered the main commercial shopping street of Athens.

  5. Question: Which are the best Department Stores / Malls in Athens?

    Attica The Department Store, Fokas, Hondos, Marks & Spencer, Golden Hall, The Mall, Sprider Stores. (See Department Store Listing for detailed information on most of these shopping meccas).

  7. Question: Can I use my credit cards to shop?

    Yes. International credit cards are accepted at most restaurants and shops throuhout Athens. Ask first about American Express and Diners.

  9. Question: Can I buy antiques and take them home with me?

    Yes, but make sure to have the receipt and the certificate that the store must issue in your name.

  11. Question: Can I buy old icons and take them home with me?

    It depends on the icons. The same rules apply as above for antiques.

  13. Question: Can I shop Tax Free?

    Yes. Before you pay for your item, ask the store to provide you with a signed form VAT (Value Added Tax) and attach your receipt to it. Present your purchase to the appropriate office upon your departure and receive the amount of taxes that you have paid for.
