The "Eleftherios Venizelos" Airport of Athens is located in the Municipality of Spata-Artemida. Thus the surrounding area has flourished in the past decade to provide hospitality and entertainment to visitors that are either passing through for a few hours or for those making a fantastic shopping day of it!

East of the City of Athens in the Attica Region of Greece, Spata (pop. over 12,000) offers access to the city from the Athens Airport via the Attiki Odos (Attica Highway) - a distance of approximately 20 kilometers.

For visitors, the Spata, has a scenic Mayoral hall and Cathedral. Locations near to here include the Settlement of Christoupoli and the Settlement of Agios Nikolaos Spaton. The area is most historically renowned as the birthplace of the historian and General Xenophon and for an ancient Mycenean cemetery that was excavated at the southern edge of town.

Located directly next door to the above are the impressive convention grounds of the Metropolitan Expo. Among the most prestigious maritime events worldwide, "Posidonia",  takes place here with roughly 17,000 people from 90 countries visiting nearly 1,900 exhibitors. Further major symposiums have included with great success the Sopexa Groupe conference, titled "Local food tradition and regional tourism development", and the Automobile Industry Exhibit.

Follow the highway to Yalou Position Spata and you arrive at the pride and joy of the capitol, the Attica Zoological Park. On its way to becoming the biggest Zoo in Greece and Southeast Europe, this is a globally-scaled thematic park with reference to the protection of biodiversity. The Attica Zoological Park is here to help us understand that the environment in which we live in is important for all of us. With this in mind, they have endeavored for years to inform both children and adults, by educating through entertainment, about some of the world’s most beautiful and rare species.

A mere 5 minute drive from the Attica Zoo sends you to the first Designer Outlet in Greece, McArthurglen Athens, where you can find your favorite labels with major price reductions. Easy to reach from city and the International Airport, it offers endless entertainment, from upscale restaurants and bars, and entertaining events throughout the year.

Their Luna Park "Ta Aidonakia" is a fantastic place to entertain the little ones. They can play in the playground and choose from 3 amusement games, including the Carousel, Trampoline and Small Train. Also you can taste sweet snacks, fruit Sorbet, fresh Pop-Corn and many beverages in their sweet corner.

Wine connoisseurs should make a point of visiting Domaine Fragou Vineyard & Winery. This is is one of the oldest buildings in Spata with a history of 230 years and holds a great number of cultural events and meetings. Wine tastings and presentations are arranged throughout the year and the modern fermentation chamber is worth calling on during the first fortnight of September, when it is filled with the predominant grape variety of the region, Savatiano.

 

Fun activities in the area also include bowling at Sports Park on 1st km Pikermi Avenue. This mega multi-space offers fun for kids of all ages that includes bowling, ice skating, playground, fun par, billiards, game and a café-restaurant.

The road from Spaton - Attiki Odos - Pallini leads to Anthoussa Avenue 8 and Kartland! Those of you who find yourselves in Northern Athens and looking for some action, should check the go cart course out. It is widely considered a one-of-a-kind experience in a highly safe environment.
