The star, of course, being the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, which draws major performances from all over the world.
Also known as the "Greek Festival", the Athens & Epidaurus Festival is determined on placing the spotlight on citizen creativity, while simultaneously being open to new creative endeavors by foreign artists. Taking place during the summer months, visitors have experienced numerous world premieres, co-productions with major foreign festivals, well-known artists, orchestras, contemporary dance, visual arts and more.
This great celebration, that has lasted over 56 summers, has hosted some of the leading lights of theater, music and dance. From Mitropoulos and Maria Callas to Rostropovich, Pavarotti, Leonidas Kavakos and Dimitris Sgouros. From Theodorakis and Hadjidakis to Savvopoulos, Protopsalti, Dalaras and Marinella.
From Rondiris and Koun to Streller, Peter Hall, Noh theater, Bunraku puppet theater, and the Peking Opera. From Balanchine to Pina Bausch, and from Nureyev and Fonteyn to Martha Graham and Alicia Alonso.
Above all, however, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival is a venture with an eventful past, often clouded by events in Greece’s recent history. It is an undertaking that, over the past decade, has taken on a much more youthful verve and openness to all walks of life.

The Festival of Athens and Epidaurus is held annually during the summer months of June, July, August and September.
