Exarcheia

Exarcheia

Exarcheia has always been considered a neighborhood of Omonoia. This area is located between Panepistimeou Street - where the Athens Trilogy is a must-see, 28th October Street and Alexandras Avenue.

Also known as Patision Street, 28th October Street houses the significant National Archaeological Museum as well as the prestigious Polytechnic University - known as ground zero of the 1973 rebellion against the harsh dictatorship of the time.

The Exarcheia district, where many Athenian students live, is occasionally the site of democratic unrest caused by the radical left scene. You should avoid the area especially on the days around November 17th.
