Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, and AEK are the most popular and successful clubs in Greek football. Panathinaikos has a long time rivalry with Olympiakos and the derby between the two teams is most of the times explosive, with violent incidents in the stadium and around it.



Olympiakos FC (OSFP)
Founded in 1925 Olympiakos also called by fans Thrylos (Legend) is the most popular and the most successful football club in Greece with 47 Greek Championship titles and 28 Greek Cups. It was the first Greek club to participate in the European competitions and it is the highest ranked Greek football team occupying the 21st place. The team's kit is white with red stripes, symbolizing passion and purity. Karaiskaki Stadium is the home ground of Olympiakos FC, and one of the most modern football grounds in Europe, named after a hero of the Greek War of Independence. Located in Piraeus it is affectionately called Limani (Port) or Naos (Temple) and has a capacity of 33.334 seats. It contains 40 VIP lounges and suites, a press conference hall, a shopping mall with restaurants, cafés, clothing stores, a gym and the Olympiakos Museum. It is a fierce home ground and with the passionate fan base of two and a half millions of supporters, it provides an intense and intimidating atmosphere.

Panathinaikos FC (PAO)
Panathinaikos is the most successful Greek football club in European competitions, having reached the European Cup finals in 1971 and the semi-finals in 1985 and 1996. The club was founded in 1908 and has won 20 Greek Championship titles and 19 Greek Cups. The color of the team's jersey is green for the home matches and white for the away. The home ground of Panathinaikos football club is the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, the first stadium in Greece with a spectator’s stand which was initially built in 1922 and has a seating capacity of 16.003 spectators. It is located in the area of Ampelokipoi, on Alexandras Avenue and it is known by fans as Leoforos (Avenue). The grass turf stadium accommodates the football matches of the Super League as well as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches of Panathinaikos FC.

AEK FC
Established in 1924 by refugees from Constantinople (Istanbul) the Athletic Union of Constantinople, known as AEK FC is one of the three most successful teams in Greek football, winning 13 Greek Championships and 16 Greek Cups and the second most successful Greek football club in European Competitions. AEK FC is known for the strong political views, solidarity towards refugees and the team’s antifascist sentiment. The double-headed eagle is the emblem of the team and the kit colors are yellow and black symbolizing the ties with Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire. The club's base is at Nea Philadelphia neighborhood a northwestern suburb of Athens, where plans for the construction of the new home ground are underway. The Olympic Athletic Center of Athens known by its acronym as OAKA currently hosts the home matches of AEK F.C in the 69.618 seat capacity stadium of Spyros Louis. Located in Marousi it is named after the first modern Olympic marathon race winner of 1896 and it is the largest and most modern Stadium in the country.
