In ancient times there were already settlements here and its inhabitants worshipped the goddess Artemis (goddess of hunting) as the area was extremely fertile. In fact, in ancient times wine was also grown here.
Even today there are still numerous green areas. However, Marousi is mainly known for its high density of Greek and multinational headquarters. There is also a large industrial area nearby. In Marousi is also the huge area of the O.A.K.A. (Olympic Athletic Center of Athens) which was the epicenter of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
