Pantanassa Church

Pantanassa Church (or Koimiseos tis Theotokou - The Assumption of the Virgin) is located directly on Monastiraki Square. The basilica that belongs to the monastery, whose name it carries.

Pantanassa Church was built in the 9th Century and during the Turkish occupation, in 1678, was Catholic of the Great Monastery at Kato Pazari.

Τhe Monastery was a weaving center, earning income from the rental of small shops located around its yard and the olives from its olive groves. After 1868, the decline began and Monastery becomes "Monastiraki".
