Shopping on Monastiraki Square

From Monastiraki Square, one of the most popular places in Athens' Old Town, several streets lead off and offer a rich shopping experience. The first to mention is Ermou Street, which is considered the most important shopping street in the city.

Another street that starts directly from the square is the narrow Pandrossou Street with its many small shops where you will find beautiful souvenirs such as replicas of ancient statues, books, and postcards and numerous Greek delicacies such as olive oil, herbs and spices, Greek sweets and wines, and, of course, ouzo - all packed for safe transport.

The slightly wider Ifaistou Street, also called the Athens Fleamarket, is where the clothing sector clearly dominates. In addition to some army shops with clothing and equipment from the army and outdoor segment, you will find creative T-shirt factories which can also print directly your personalized motifs. Ifaistou Street is also a hotspot for sandal makers; some of them can be watched at work.

The nearby Avissinias Square is an El Dorado for antique lovers. Old furniture and musical instruments are reflected in antique mirrors with decorated wooden frames, and while rummaging around you can find a whole collection of pewter figures from the post-war period in a drawer of an old chest of drawers.
