Shopping on Panepistimiou Street

Eleftherios Venizelos Street (or Panepistimiou Street) hosts the finest neoclassical 19th Century buildings in Athens. But its one of the most commercial streets with a lot of traffic, which during the economic crisis has been hit hard just like the rest of the center.

Although it was planned by the Hellenic Government and studies were made for an all pedestrian Panepistimiou Street, apparently the redevelopment plan of the center of Athens was called off at the end.

Especially if you are on foot, you will notice that along Panepistimiou Street, there are remarkable architectural masterpieces that adorn the center of Athens. Fortunately, they are in good condition and the lighting at night brings out their noble beauty. Also, there is the Titania Hotel (No. 52), with the wonderful view from the terrace where you can eat or drink your coffee. We would highly recommend it.

If you want to have fun in the center there are several cinemas. On Korai Street, opposite the magnificent University of Athens, there are many cafes, bars, and super markets as there are also in the close vicinity of the area. Luckily everything is very close by if you do not wear high heels!
