Sightseeing on Klafthmonos Square

Klafthmonos Square, on Stadiou Street, is a spacious square in the center of Athens and offers an ideal spot to linger and orientate. Omonoia Square, Syntagma Square, and the Monastiraki and Psiri districts are within walking distance.

Klafthmonos Square was also the center of the former Emporiko Trigono (Economic Triangle), where Athens' economic life took place for a long time. Nearby, on Sofokleous Street, is the Old Stock Exchange of Athens.

Directly on the square is the First Royal Palace, where King Otto and Queen Amalia once resided, until the new palace (today's Parliament in Syntagma Square) was completed. Today, the museum of the city of Athens is located here.

On the opposite side of Klafthmonos Square, you can reach Panepistimiou Street (Eleftherios Venizelos Street) via Korai Street (which is almost more like a square) and admire the Athens Trilogy. A very nice area is located at the lower part of Klafthmonos Square around the Agioi Theodoroi Church. Here you can enjoy excellent coffee or late-night cocktails.
