The Greek "Parea"

The Greek "Parea"

The Greeks love to spend their free time in the company of the so-called "parea". These can be friends, family, or even business partners. Nobody does like to sit alone in a tavern or cafe.

With a good "parea" (def. company) one can have fun, laugh, discuss or debate. This is very pronounced among both old and young people and explains the numerous, often above-average number of gastronomic venues such as cafes, bars, and restaurants.

It is also common to order as a group table. Many different dishes in the middle of the table and everyone has an empty plate in front of him and takes what he likes from it. The bill is either handled by whoever's turn it is to treat or roughly divided.
