The tour of abundance (2/4)

The tour of abundance (2/4)

Along the exciting Ermou Street the tour then leads to the parallel Kolokotroni Street where you can find many interesting gastronomic venues.

Ermou Street

You are now on Ermou Street. The Parliament building is on the same line behind you, which will be visible for a long time while you walk down the paved pedestrian section. On Ermou Street, between the modern constructions, there are jewels of neoclassical architecture - and some unique stores.

Korres Natural Products

Quite at the beginning of Ermou Street you will find an interesting store of the Korres Natural Products (Ermou Street 4). It is a Hellenic skincare brand, born out of Athens’ first-ever homeopathic pharmacy. The goal of Korres is to develop innovative and clinically effective skincare products based on natural active ingredients and to project the unique Greek flora benefits through the cooperations with local farmers, and the production of brand-own high-value organic extracts. This is a true success story of Greece, which also operates several stores internationally.

Turn right into Vouli Street

We're leaving Ermou Street for a short time. Turn right into Voulis Street. This street leads you directly to Kolokotroni Street and the back of the Old Parliament House (Stadiou Street 13). This structure was occupied originally by the house of the Athenian magnate and politician, Alexandros Kontostavlos. After Athens became the capital of Greece in 1833, King Otto chose it as temporary residence, pending the construction of the Royal Palace (which now houses the Parliament). The Hellenic Parliament met here between 1875 and 1932. It currently houses the National Historical Museum.

Turn left into Kolokotroni Street
Kolokotroni Street is a parallel to Ermou Street and has become the most important going out area around Syntagma Square in recent years. Here you will find numerous cozy bars, trendy restaurants, sexy cocktail bars and unique shops.

Barley Cargo

Beer lovers will do well to check out Barley Cargo (Kolokotroni Street 6). With its warehouse-deco, it has an integrated brewery and provides over 30 different brands of beers to be enjoyed on their tables built from barrels and seats of caskets.

Hot Hot Burgers

Following down on Kolokotroni Street, you will arrive the intersection with Praxitelous Street. At this point popular Hot Hot Burger Bar (Kolokotroni Street 14) is located and gives passersby the choice of a juicy burger at its stands, instead of the cheese pies that used to be the only alternative for a quick snack in the city.

Bartesera

Across Hot Hot Burgers, you can see Stoa Praxitelous and inside, the infamous Bartesera (Kolokotroni Street 25) Stoa Praxitelous (Praxitelous Arcade) was constructed in the 1920s by the architect Vassilis Kouremenos. Recently, Bartesera occupies the entire arcade, creating a casual cafe/bar with various seating areas for chilling out, cocktails and entertaining. In this multispace there are also exhibitions and great Dj-sets.

Continue Kolokotroni Street and turn left into Evaggelistrias Street and Kalamiotou Street

This area, around Kalamiotou Street, is known as the fabric-zone of Athens. Here you will find numerous shops specializing in fabrics, decor, and curtains. You will not believe what you can find here at unbeatable prices.
