Walk and... Shop a little bit history (2/3)

This tour will bring you closer to the historic areas of Monastiraki and Psiri. We will show you some very interesting places, stunning buildings, great places to eat & drink and some really unique shopping places.

Turn right into Agiou Filippou Street
At this small road, Ifaistou Street starts after few meters on the right. But before we turn right, you should turn your attention to the left. Immediately  behind the corner building to Adrianou Street, you will see the archaeological site of the Stoa Poikile. Currently they are excavating there, and if you are lucky you can watch the archaeologists working.

Turn right into Ifaistou Street

One of the most important streets in Monastiraki is the market of Ifaistou Street and the adjacent small streets or otherwise known as the "Flea Market Monastiraki". The shops are very close to each other and you can find from small treasures up to vintage objects. They sell furniture, tools, appliances, clothing and shoes, even old magazines. Most items emanate from private collections.

Avissinias Square

This small square is the antique bazaar of Monastiraki. Here, every Sunday from 09:00 outside the bric-a-brac shops, has become renowned throughout the country. Treasures such as chairs, mirrors, old phones and cameras, vases, lamps, books, disks, cheap CDs, DVDs, as well as original relics are worth your attention.

Turn left Normanou Street
We turn left into Normanou Street. This path connects Ifaistou Street with Ermou Street.

T.A.F. The Art Foundation

T.A.F. The Art Foundation (Normanou Street 5) is one of the most active and creative groups in Athens. A team of collaborators discovered an abandoned building in the center of Athens and originated an independent cultural project focusing on participatory culture, experimentation, and exploration. In the building are housed a gallery, a bar with a beautiful inner courtyard, and a shop.

Turn right into Ermou Street
We turn right and leave Monastiraki by crossing to the other side of Ermou Street, where the Psiri area is located. Look to the left into Pittaki Street. Lampshades of all styles decorate the tiny road transforming it into a dreamy setting while illuminating Psiri at night.

Turn left into Agias Theklas Street
This is the next street after Pettaki Street that turns left from Ermou Street.

Melissinos Art

Pantelis Melissinos, son of the legendary sandal maker-poet of Athens, from which Sophia Lauren and Jackie Onassis ordered their sandals, continues to run with the same love and inexhaustible imagination the family business. The handmade sandals of Melissinos Art (Agias Theklas Street 2) will steal your heart, and the display in front of the wonderful laboratory-shop is essential in every walk around Psiri.

Safestay Athens

The Safestay Athens (Agias Theklas Street 10) hostel has one of the most beautiful terraces of the city, with panoramic views of the Acropolis and the Observatory, which a few months ago was renovated and received world-class attention due to its style and hospitality. Sit on multicolored sofas and listen to rock music (from Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Morrissey) and drink frosty draft beers and other nice inexpensive drinks. It opens from 17:00, and if you get hungry, there are many delicious special meals that change daily inspired by the Greek traditional cuisine.

Turn right into Karaiskaki Street
After your short but delicious break turn right into Karaiskaki Street , the most central and "alive" street of Psiri.
