Horseback Riding in Athens

With more than 35 horse riding clubs in the region of Attica and more than 50 equestrian clubs in Greece, horseback riding has become very popular with the public, especially the young. Equestrianism today has 2,450 riders and around 1,000 horses in Greece and it is an official sport of the Olympic Games.

Apart from the sport of horseback riding, there are clubs that offer leisure riding along natural pathways and scenic mountain trails, and therapeutic riding to assist people with disabilities and provide kinetic and emotional progress.

Athens has a number of riding centers and estates with indoor and outdoor circuits in the areas of Marousi, Koropi, Gerakas, Varibombi, Tatoi, Ekali and much more. The Markopoulo racetrack near the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport refers to those wishing to watch and place a bet at the horse races.
