Korai Square

Korai Square

Korais Square is the main square of Piraeus and serves as a microcosm of Piraeus itself, blending the old and the new while offering a window into the city's rich maritime heritage.

Named after the prominent Greek poet Adamantios Korais, the square has undergone numerous transformations throughout its history. Originally laid out in the 19th century, it was a center for cultural activities and gatherings. Over the years, it evolved into a central point for both residents and visitors, reflecting Piraeus' significance as Greece's main port. Since 2022 Korai Square is connected to the Athens metro network (Blue Line "3", Station: "Municipal Theater of Piraeus / Dimotiko Theatro").

Surrounded by historic buildings, Korai Square exudes an air of nostalgia. The Municipal Theater of Piraeus, an architectural gem, stands proudly nearby. It has been a venue for various cultural events, including theatrical performances, concerts, and ballets. The Municipal Art Gallery is another cultural highlight, showcasing works by Greek and international artists.

Korai Square is a culinary paradise, offering a diverse range of dining options. Traditional tavernas serve authentic Greek cuisine, allowing visitors to savor the flavors of Greece.

Café terraces are perfect for people-watching, and the square comes alive with vibrant nightlife when the sun goes down. It's a place to enjoy a leisurely coffee or indulge in delicious Mediterranean dishes.

The square's proximity to the port makes it an ideal spot for shopping and picking up souvenirs. Boutiques, shops, and markets offer everything from clothing and accessories to local handicrafts and maritime-themed items. It's an excellent place to find unique mementos of your visit to Piraeus.

Starting from Korai Square you can explore other nearby attractions, such as the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, the Zea Marina, and the picturesque Mikrolimano Bay.
