Athens Metro Stations of Line 1 (Green Line)

The Athens Metro Line 1 (Green Line) connects the Piraeus Port with the northern suburb of Kifissia. The metro line is 89.7 km long, has a total of 24 stops and runs underground and above ground.

Nowadays, anyone who has a long time to use the old electrical train (the first line of Attica Metro) will be pleasantly surprised when they do. Besides the Omonoia Station, which was the first one that was renewed in order to blend the architectural styles of the two rail networks that it hosted (Metro and HSAP), all of the stations have a completely different appearance.



     "Piraeus" Metro Station
The original Piraeus station was inaugurated on 1869. Its present form dates back to 2003, when the renovation and restoration work was carried out before the 2004 Olympic Games. In the Piraeus Station you can see the Electric Railway Museum, which has been in operation since 2005.

      "Monastiraki" Metro Station
It named after Monastiraki Square. The station was inaugurated on May 17th, 1895. It is partly outdoor type open and partly underground and has double-sided platforms. On the ticketing level of Monastiraki Station you can see the creation of artist Leda Papakonstantinou, made of 324 pieces of plexiglass occupy 134 square meters on the roof. The embedded bed of the Iridanos River is one out of the most significant finds of the Monastiraki Station.


      "Omonoia" Metro Station
The Station of this important Square was inaugurated on 1895. It is partly outdoor type open and partly underground and has double-sided platforms. In the Omonoia station the project curated by visual artist Nikos Kessanlis. His name is called "Oura" (def. "tail"). It shows shady figures that appear to be waiting, shouting, raising their hands and exhibiting patience.


      "Victoria" Metro Station
The architectural style of the Victoria station is Art Deco and the walls are covered with light blue tiles in contrast with the tiles of the Omonoia station, which are dark yellow. Before and after the renovation, the station's name is shown in big white labels that were made in Germany by Emaillierwerk Gottfried Dichanz. The concept of the station is very similar to the stations in Berlin, the stairs in this concept go directly to the street.
