The city of Athens (Municipality) began distributing backpacks filled with basic essentials for dealing with the conditions of winter to its homeless citizens.

His support to homeless shows the Municipality of Athens who through the Reception and Solidarity Center (K.Y.A.D.A.) and in collaboration with E.A.T.A. launched a major action to distribute backpacks with winter essentials with the aim of relieving people living on the street and protecting them from the harsh weather conditions.

This action is carried out in parallel with the effort made so that the homeless to leave the street and be accommodated in the new and safe structures of the municipality.

On Thursday evening, street work teams were passing out these backpacks to homeless people, each of which contained sleeping bags, blankets, jackets, water resistant trousers, thermos flasks, flashlights, and whistles.

This action was planned in collaboration with the Open Social Net of the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens (ETA) and with the contribution of the Street Work groups, who, utilizing their experience, shaped the content of the backpacks based on the real needs of the homeless.

Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis said that while homeless people, “may live on the streets, they are not alone. The Street Work teams of K.Y.A.D.A. it is next to our homeless fellow citizens. They go around the city, handing out essentials and sharing humanity. Warm items to break the cold, to bring the winter out.”
