Stefanos Tsitsipas qualified for the 3rd round of the Madrid Open. The Greek tennis player, although he saw the Austrian win the first set, responded in the next two sets and thanks to his serve he prevailed 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(5).

"Tsitsifast" turned the match around and won in 2 hours and 19 minutes against the 28-year-old tennis player. His opponent on Monday (1/5) will be the Argentinian Sebastian Baez. The Greek tennis player finished the match with 22 winners and 27 unforced errors.

In the 1st set, Thiem took a 1-4 lead and from then on held his serve to go 1-0. With Tsitsipas flawless on his serve and with two breaks (2-0, 5-1), 1-1 was not long in coming. Tsitsipas found himself with a break point at 1-1 with Thiem's double fault in the 3rd set. The two players went hand in hand until 5-5. However, at this point an error by Thiem gave Tsitsipah a break point, but Thiem was able to equalise. Tsitsipas persevered and got to two more break points afterwards, but no returns came and eventually Thiem emerged unscathed, moving ahead 5-6. Tsitsipas held his serve afterwards and it was all clear in the tiebreak, where the Greek came back from 1-3 down, led 5-3 and had two match points at 6-4. Tim took the mini break back by playing... full attack, but Stefanos took his second match point with the Austrian's mistake at the net and closed out the match.
