As of last Friday and in observance of the centennial since Hans Riegel invented the gummi bear candy (Gummibarchen) in Bonn, the German Embassy in Athens are now continuously highlighting the contributions of German inventors on its social media accounts

In an official statement, the embassy said many objects we use and take for granted in our daily lives are inventions by German men and women, and the country is still associated with technicians and inventors, including those who discovered the mRNA vaccine against coronavirus.

"Innovations are key for new investments, progress, and greater competitive ability, something that is true of both Greece and Germany, the embassy said, noting the Greek-German collaborations between businesses and universities in several sectors, including health research, energy efficiency technology, and digital recording of cultural heritage.

As example of a bilateral research and innovation program between Greece and Germany, the embassy cited the example of Ioannina, in NW Greece, where German innovative companies are established, while a pilot program of international interest is being implemented on the island of Astypalea between the Greek government and Volkswagen for climate neutrality."

Moreover, the German Embassy in Athens is highlighting the contributions of German inventors on its social media accounts every Friday.
