Sakkari enters the battle
The top tennis player of all time in Greece is the absolute favorite against the No. 572 of the world ranking, which in turn comes from a very good course in the qualifiers of the third Grand Slam of the season.
In her 6th participation in Wimbledon, Maria Sakkari will seek to reach as high as possible and at the same time to enter the tournament with a comfortable dominance that will raise her psychology in view of the difficult continuation.
Against female athletes from the "land of kangaroos", the 26-year-old counts 6 wins and an equal number of defeats, with three of them being from the former top tennis player in the world, Ashley Barty.
There is also a balance in victories and defeats (2-2) in Sakkari's matches with opponents from Australia in the Grand Slam they met.
The last Australian to face the Greek champion was Alia Tomlianovic, at Roland Garros in 2020, when she prevailed 2-0 (6-0, 7-5).
Wimbledon will also premiere today (no earlier than 3pm) and trophy winner Novak Djokovic, who will play South Korean Sungu Kwon (15:30 GR), as well as Andy Murray, who will face him the Australian, Jack Duckworth.
