16 arrested in Exarcheia and Avliza clashes; 13 police officers injured

Police detained 21 individuals in clashes held late Tuesday in the Athens district of Exarcheia after the end of the march for the 14-year anniversary since the murder of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a special police guard.

According to police, 9 of the individuals were then placed under arrest, while 3 police officers were lightly injured.

Apart from those in Exarcheia, clashes with protestors were reported late Tuesday in Avliza, western Attica, when groups of Roma protesting over the shooting of a 16-year-old in Thessaloniki by a police officer, lit fires and attacked police with stones and other objects.
7 individuals were arrested while 10 police officers were injured in the Avliza clashes.
Finally, the Egaleo ring road was closed on Wednesday because, according to police, during the clashes the Roma threw many bulky and heavy objects onto the road that need to be removed.
