The city of Athens is considered the economic center of Greece. Almost everything takes place in the metropolitan area around the capital. Approximately 3 million residents live in the greater area, making up nearly half the total population of Greece.
The favorable geographic location in the middle of Greece which is served by a well-developed rail network and, of course, the port of Piraeus - one of the most important container ports in Europe and worldwide is one of the advantages of Athens as a business location. 25 kilometers away from a private airport, Eleftherios Venizelos, the largest airport in Greece that governs all air freight traffic in the country can be found.
Therefore, it is understandable that many Greek and international corporations have settled in the region of Attica. However, companies based elsewhere in Greece typically have a branch or at least a representative office in the capital.
