Konstantinos Kavafis

One of the most important Greek contemporary poets was Konstantinos Kavafis. He was born on 29 April, 1863, in Alexandria, after his parents relocated when they left from Constantinople in 1840.

After his father's death in 1870, the family of Konstantinos Kavafis moved to England (Liverpool and London) where they stayed until 1876.

Kavafis began issuing poems in 1886, influenced by the Athenian romantic poets and his work was published in tens of languages. He died on 29th April 1933, on his 70th birthday, in Alexandria, Egypt.
