Kotzia Square

Kotzia Square

Kotzia Square is found across from the Town Hall of Athens, between the streets Athinas and Aiolou. A large public parking garage is found just below it.

Kotzia Square hosts some modern sculptures but, confessedly, it is low on green areas to flatter it further. The square named after former Mayor of Athens, Konstantinos Kotzias (1892 – 1951). The Square has preserved the main characteristics of 19th Century local neoclassical architecture, such as the Town Hall of the Municipality of Athens and the National Bank building of Greece Cultural Center.

Beneath the premises of the new National Bank on Aiolou Street 82-84 you will find excavations of the Acharnian Gate and the Ancient Wall of Athens - which was preserved during the construction of this building.
