Hydra is one of the most beautiful islands of Saronic Gulf, with an amazing scenery of colors and sights, a breathtakingly beautiful island built amphitheatrically around the port. Hydra stands out for its wonderful architecture.
The island will impress you with its famous classic mansions, crossing its beautiful alleys, walking by the deep blue sea waters. Hydra owes its name to plentyfull waters, which gushed from the fountains in the ancient years.
You may reach the island by flying dolphins from the port of Piraeus, daily (journey time 1 1/2 hours) or by car from Athens (duration approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes). The island played a major role in the Greek war of Independence (1821), due to its large naval force.
