About

Divine passion and myth in opera.

On Holy Monday, April 10, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center welcomes for the second time in the Stavros Niarchos Hall the Soloists of Venice (I Solisti Veneti), the famous Chamber Orchestra of Italy, together with the distinguished Greek contralto Marita Paparizou, who will take us on a journey world of the Divine and Myth. The orchestra is conducted by the acclaimed conductor Giuliano Carella.

The music of Antonio Vivaldi will coexist with those of George Frideric Handel and Nicola Porpora, opera with oratorios, serenades and concertos, but also ancient Greek and Roman mythology with religious worship. In this way, the Soloists of Venice and the warm voice of Marita Paparizou will try to give us an anthology of baroque music and its thematic heritage of the Renaissance and the ideals of the Camerata Fiorentina.

The orchestra "I Solisti Veneti" was founded in Padua in 1959 by Claudio Scimone, a student of Dimitris Mitropoulos. Claudio Scimone remained its Director until his death in September 2018. Under his direction, the orchestra quickly gained international recognition from audiences and critics and became known mainly for performing Italian Baroque music, presenting and recording many works by Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Albinoni , Francesco Geminiani, Benedetto Marcello and Giuseppe Tartini.

To date, the Venice Soloists have given more than 6,000 concerts in over 90 countries, have taken part in the most important classical music festivals, have recorded more than 350 LPs, CDs and DVDs, have been honored with dozens of awards (including a Grammy Award and of the "Una Vita per la Musica" award for their entire artistic contribution) and have collaborated with some of the greatest singers and soloists of our time, such as Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, June Anderson, Marilyn Horne, Ruggero Raimondi, Samuel Ramey, Lucio Dalla and Massimo Ranieri.

Marita Paparizou has collaborated with the Soloists of Venice, performing many concerts throughout Europe, as well as on her award-winning solo album Vivaldi ma non solo.
