The new solo painting exhibition of Anna Maria Papadimitriou is presented at the "Astrolabos - tank" Art Gallery, entitled: "Shades from the deep".

"We resemble seas, we are bodies of water, with tangible surfaces and immeasurable depths. Our existence is interwoven with a sequence of breaths. But beyond breathing, we are a sequence of dives. The inner self, a valuable field of inquiry, has infinite inner nuances and potentially found in the deepest contents of the fluid watery space that houses the unconscious.

What do we do with what is not visible? If through sight we see what has form, how do we see the essence behind the form? How do we give clues to the Unseen? These questions were present unconsciously when I was connected to a painting process that resembles the experience of successive dives into the depths of the Invisible. Putting aside the representation of the already visible, I chose research, improvisation, anxiety and ecstasy of the possible encounter with something unprecedented and revelatory. I have the feeling that I'm exploring undefined inner landscapes on the edge of archetypal depths." says the artist herself about her new section of works Shades of the Deep.

The works presented in the exhibition move within the wider context of abstract expressionism with a very personal painterly idiom that approaches poetic abstraction. The combinations of colors sometimes contrasting with each other and elsewhere in similar tonality, bright or darker, cause a special sensation in the eye, evoking emotions in the viewer. The different materials that alternate the wild with the soft of the oil material, the relief with many overlapping layers of color and in some places the transparent, arouse the interest of the viewer in relation to their painting values and lead them on emotional journeys. The artist gives her own titles to the works but the images or approach the viewer will ultimately have and the feeling they get from viewing the works may vary. Different readings are perfectly legitimate and the viewer ultimately becomes a participant and co-creator. This is also the reason why the works remain energetically alive no matter how many times we see them and evolve at the same time as us, creating occasions for new internal discussions.

The Art Historian Dr. Thodoris Koutsoyiannis reports on this: "Without specific references to the outside world, the Shades of Anna Maria Papadimitriou can be seen as eerie, almost dreamlike, transcendental "landscapes". Any association with the natural world, rather leads to an aquatic environment, as a starting point of life, of creation. Papadimitriou's paintings invite the viewer to wander, virtually, in "uncharted waters", in the unconscious, in the world that exists beyond our senses of our painter reach the point of ecstatic self-consciousness."
