About

The Invisible Museum is the successful action of the National Archaeological Museum that displays selected antiquities from the world of warehouses.

After dozens of wonderful objects that have been presented so far, the Invisible Museum welcomes "the strange story of a kouros from Crete". It is a bronze statuette of rare beauty that depicts the Minoan type of worshiper. The figurine is said to have been found in Milato of Malia in the last years of the First World War. It was acquired by the National Archaeological Museum in 1923 and exhibited for a short time in the interwar period. Its unknown provenance, unusual naturalistic rendering of various details combined with its large size make it unique and raise doubts about its authenticity. The discovery of the bronze kouros in the Invisible Museum marks the beginning of the unraveling of a difficult archaeological puzzle with the help of modern archeometric tools, which are expected to shed light on its true origin.
