About

At The Breeder gallery, three new solo exhibitions are presented for the summer, specifically for the period from 8/6 to 31/8/2023.

Opening of all three exhibitions: Thursday, June 8, 19:00 - 22:00

• Olga Migliaressi-Phoca "Risky Business"
A thought-provoking exploration of gender, identity, visual representation and the complex interplay between subjects and objects. The exhibition pushes the boundaries and challenges the rules, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a world of contemplation and reflection. Migliaressi-Phoca invites us into a captivating wordplay through the transformation of iconic logos into her text-based works. Instantly recognizable, familiar visual cues that have become part of our language are revisited with stimulating twists to create new meanings and provoke introspection. Her pop aesthetic, combined with a caustic edge, provides a critical perspective. The exhibition opens with a striking neon installation, "Risky Business / 2023", in bold red letters that acts as a prologue to the thematic narratives unfolding within the gallery.

• Amalia Vekri "After dark"
In Vekri's paintings there is never any text, never a clear description of what exactly is happening. It draws inspiration from horror/vampire films like Vamp, starring Grace Jones as a seductive vampire stripper. For Vekri, the female vampire is an inversion of gender traditions. Vekri figures are free from social expectations, but are in a constant negotiation with their soul, imagining and even enjoying going as far as possible in every direction. Through scenography and lighting, the exhibition itself becomes one of the situations the artist paints.

Editor: Andreas Angelidakis

• Andreas Angelidakis "The Rubble Chute Order" at Breeder Studio.
The Breeder Studyroom is a new initiative, a space within the gallery building where each artist creates a study room to share part of their creative process with the gallery audience.
Andreas Angelidakis occupies the space to present the exhibition The Rubble Chute Order.

The Rubble Chute Order is a project that develops within other projects, such as exhibitions, installations, etc., finding opportunities to connect conceptually with structures of understanding. The play tells the story of a group of plastic sacks from rubble gathered in the summer of 2015, when Greece was expelled from Europe. The summer of referendums and huge queues at ATMs.
These revolutionary slides worked to empty the interior of old buildings, to then be renovated and used as Airbnbs. This was the only construction done in Greece for many years, and so the slides decided to form their own class of architecture. Like the previous orders, they took their names from the tribes that used them, the Dorians, the Ionians and the Corinthians. This is what the Order of the Fragments meant to us, the people trashed by governments and their banking system.
