Zoumboulakis Gallery presents Marina Gennadieva's solo exhibition "Aerial Passages".

Takis Koumbis reports on the works of Marina Gennadieva:
"The Dead Zone of Cyprus as an image act".
The Dead Zone has been defined since 1974 as an extension of the Green Line which takes its name and geopolitical dimension from the visual engraving of the green pencil of the British Lieutenant General Peter Young on the map of Nicosia. It is the opening gesture that precedes the geopolitical separation by prioritizing the field of appearance of the visual engraving and the neutral zone. Therefore, the territory of Mesaoria between the mountains Troodos and Pentadaktylos is characterized by the prohibition of the passage of people, inadvertently creating a primordial Nature, a paradoxical Eden, an animal-plant non-place, which welcomes some of the rarest endemic and endangered species plants and animals.
This paradoxical Nature repeats the question of the natural condition of the visual work and invites art to show the visible but indiscernible roads, the invisible border crossings, the passages that unite the traces of people, plants and animals, offering art the unique possibility of elimination of the separation between the forms of Nature and the works of visual art.
Air Passages by Marina Gennadieva raises the question of crossing borders and, in particular, the movement of crossing invisible borders, such as those of the Dead Zone, which are not ascertained either on the ground or on maps, but are perceived through vision and sight . The presence of the works, here, aims to transform the visual form into an active image and set the work in motion through the interaction with the observer. Therefore, they are not representations but works that become image acts, as they visually involve their transformation into artefacts in action. The dominant theme of the exhibition focuses on the pattern of the curtain, which in Western iconography delimits the framework of the work of art, opening up a field of symbolism and ambiguity through the concealment/reveal of ambiguous points of the image. The curtain (2022, 215 x 335 x 50 cm.) in Airy Passages, consists of one and a half million colored glass beads passed by hand, transferring the painting experience to the space.[...]".

Marina Gennadieva is a visual artist who lives and works between Athens and Nicosia. She studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, (2010-2016) and continued her studies at the Master of Visual Arts (MET), (2020-2022) of the same School. In 2014 he studied at the Kunstuniversität in Linz, Austria with an Erasmus scholarship. Aerina Perasmata's work was selected by UNFICYP to be exhibited at the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia (March 4-8, 2024) as part of the events for the sixty years of the presence of the United Nations in Cyprus. In 2023 she held her first solo exhibition at the Art Seen gallery in Nicosia. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
