About

Merem was created in Rotterdam in 2021 by the musicians Dimitra Metzakis (out), Giorgos Bereri (piano), Vanessa Kourtesis (vocals), Yiannis Vagianos (double bass) and Hector Remsak (drums).

Merem Live at Gazarte

The band members met during their studies at Codarts University of the Arts. Their common roots combined with the environment in which they met, pushed them to compose their own music with influences from Greek traditional and Jazz improvisation.

The result of their common searches is the self-titled album Merem, recorded in Utrecht at the beginning of '23 and released in September. Their sound is soft, poetic and colorful. He loves the freedom offered by improvisation, adding elements that come from rebetiko and Smyrnaic song, in an effortless and charming way, to new compositions that bring oriental aromas to their music.

Since the beginning of their career, they have held concerts in the Netherlands, Western Europe and Greece, while in the summer of 2023 they participated in the historic North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, one of the biggest jazz festivals in the world.

The first presentation of the album will take place at the gazarte roof stage in Athens on October 29, 2023.
