The Mediterranean Sea is a microcosm of global maritime issues, including challenges such as sustainable tourism, green shipping, marine pollution and the wider green transition.

Our Ocean Greece Film Festival at the Athens Concert Hall

In 2015, the adoption of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2012), a global action plan for people, planet and well-being to transform our world and put it on a sustainable path by 2030, and in particular the adoption of SDG 15 on "life under water", was a key milestone in recognizing that healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence and that conservation and the sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources is paramount to ensuring all three dimensions - environmental, social and economic - of sustainable development.

Since its inception, the Conferences have gradually evolved into a general forum for dialogue that brings together governments, intergovernmental organizations, academia, the private sector and NGOs who share a common vision for ocean protection and take action to support it of the vision.
