The Municipality of Vari - Voula - Vouliagmeni was created during the local government reform in 2011 when the 3 former municipalities were united and since then formed 1 cohesive unit. The municipality, located at the southern tip of the Athens metropolitan area, is almost entirely by the sea and has an area of 37,225 km2 and 48,399 inhabitants (2011 census).
