About

The non-profit international social organization of Contemporary Art and Culture "KROMA", inaugurates on Saturday February 17, 2024 at 7 pm, the group exhibition of 18 artists "Memory Void" at the exhibition space of ROMANTSO, the historical building of the magazine of the same name (3 Anaxagoras Street -5).

Text editing: Angelina Spanou

"A memory gap is defined as the loss of memory, caused by various causes. Intense psychological shock, substance abuse or aging can cause forgetfulness, a forgetfulness that is also strongly observed at the collective level in modern times.
18 artists are inspired by the "blackout" phenomenon and become observers of a society that survives through oblivion, temporary or permanent. Concepts and symbols of the past persistently claim space, as outdated statements, obsessions, but also a means of entrapment; of the Self, and of the Other. At the same time, memory loss is presented as a demand, in a world where the individual is unable to find his place and raise his stature against the systems and ideas that oppress him.
Through this different recording of historical events, national narratives, and class differences, the artists recall experiences deeply rooted in Greek society, inviting us to explore their usefulness and function today, but also the personal relationship of each of us with them. The materials that pass, sometimes fragile and fleeting, sometimes hard and solid, are organically included in this dialogue, on the concepts of memory, identity, the past and individual and collective freedom."
