Cellist Konstantinos Sfetsas and pianist Stefanos Thomopoulos are among the most talented yet restless performers of their generation, each having to their credit many successful concerts both as a soloist and as part of chamber music works.
Pillars of their recital in the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall are two magnificent works for cello and piano, Beethoven's Third Sonata and Schnittke's First Sonata. Beethoven's work stands out as the longest and most popular sonata for cello and piano of the great German classic, while the latter is a dark and heartbreaking work, where the forces of chaos and order collide with the greatest possible ferocity, creating a world of sound unprecedented metaphysical depth.
