Gallery Allouche Benias presents the solo exhibition of artist Yam Salem entitled "Life Lately (Painter's Life)" during the period 7/9-7/10/2023.

"My paintings arise from my observational personality: I consider myself more of an observer than a participant in the situations I find myself in. My works act as a lens to analyze human behavior and human interactions, thus discovering new aspects of myself and deepening my relationships.

Nowadays, I feel that people pay special attention to their environment and especially to the culture around food. But what do objects say about us? There are many ways to experience the presence of people in different places and times, without necessarily portraying them. In a world that focuses primarily on the representation of the figure, I find it both fascinating and challenging to explore still life, which I believe defines our western cultural identity.

Through my work I take an introspective look at our festive, intimate, romantic and vulnerable moments and share these personal experiences in a visual way. By locating repeated objects and locations in these compositions, the viewer begins to interpret an experience, a culture, and a group of people without including the participants.

Additionally, through my work I make sense of the stages of transformation and purification I go through as I become more contemplative. I tell my personal stories of happiness, sadness, love, loss and growth, capturing fleeting moments, echoes of people, places and situations. These stories are completely personal, but at the same time inclusive and intimate."
