About

Images of wars, images of unbearable violence and heartbreak from every part of the world reach our screens every day. The absurdity of war seems to concern only those who live it, for everyone else it is limited to a dry, virtual and harmless information. It is buried among a multitude of news, cut off from the experience of mourning. We are thus familiar with the image and information of violence, we are trained in death but we have not learned to mourn.

Hekabe in Euripides' tragedy of the same name begins as a person from this point, from what we have forgotten, the path of mourning. In the first part of the play, mourning, personal as well as collective, seems to give birth to its metaphysics: the living and the dead are in constant conversation, a buried boy disturbs the sleep of his mother, a girl stands on the border between life and death. In Hekavi everything happens in a liminal time, after the end of the war. But the violence is not over. And precisely there, in the time of transition, the Hekabe of mourning becomes the Hekabe of revenge, opening a bold dialectic with today.

A multi-member troupe of excellent actors and musicians and the new translation by Eleni Varopoulos, made especially for the show, are the pillars of the project.
