Skoufa Gallery presents the new group exhibition of paintings entitled "Teachers and Descendants". The exhibition presents works by iconic painters of the Generation of the 30s and the Generation of the 60s.

Starting from the Generation of the 30's and with works by Yannis Tsarouchis, Diamantis Diamantopoulos, Yannis Moralis and Nikos Nikolaos one can distinguish the influences from Greek painting, as well as traditional and Ancient Greek art, combined with the modernist currents of the time . The question of "Greekness" is primary in this generation of artists. The works are dominated by symbolism in the forms, which are based on the composition of the design, as well as the representation of nature and the landscape.

On the opposite side, works of the Generation of the 60s are presented, by the artists: Nikos Stefanos, Alekos Fasianos and Vassilis Sperantzas who for about a decade collaborated in the Kallithea studio - as it became known, marking not only the development of their painting but also influencing the development of art in Greece. Familiar with the currents and tendencies of the 20th century, they were inextricably linked to the generation of the '30s and while preserving some of the teachings of the previous generation they remained faithful to figurative but not representational painting, moving towards schematic simplification and enriching it with expressionist and surrealist elements .

As a whole, both generations of artists are characterized by their austerity and lyricism, characteristics which are assimilated differently by each artist. Their contribution to the formation of Neo-Greek art and the trends of the time was decisive for both.
