It all begins in 1834, when Athens is declared the capital of the newly formed Greek state. Within a few years, from the mud village with the few mud houses it turns into a beautiful European city.

Magnificent buildings, Pentelian marbles, griffins, sphinxes, Ionic columns, gilded decorations make up the puzzle of a city that so unjustly and frivolously destroyed its aesthetics. In this tour, we unravel the thread of the development of the physiognomy of the Greek urban space.

Its main shaper was Ernst Ziller, the German architect who renounced his birthplace of Saxony and adopted Athens as his second home. According to him the sun, the Attic sky and the monuments of Athens guided the talent and gave life to his works. Athens was to be the city that gave him glory, fame and money but also the one where he spent the last hours of his life penniless and bankrupt. The resourceful Ziller, the great architect, the craftsman, the designer, the technician who knew well the marble, the wood, the limestone, the researcher of antiquities managed to leave his architectural stamp indelible in our city.

A special guided tour, a journey through time with strong emotions, since we will have the opportunity to see and understand what remains of the peculiar Athenian neoclassicism but also what has been lost forever.
