Os Mutantes, one of the most influential Brazilian rock bands, was formed in 1966, in São Paulo, Brazil, by Rita Lee and brothers Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias. Together with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Tom Zé, they contributed to the creation of the movement I laid the foundations helped to define the Tropicália movement.
Active in the 60s and 70s, Os Mutantes combined Brazilian music with influences from British rock and American psychedelic bands such as the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Sly & the Family Stone, with bossa nova, samba and the cultural heritage of Brazilian avant-garde art mainly from the modernism movement.
Twenty years after disbanding, Os Mutantes is a pioneering cult band with a loyal following and continues to influence dozens of artists, in every musical space.
