The Onassis Foundation House presents the "Documents of Breathing" photo exhibition by Pasqua Borgias and Pavlos Physakis at the Parnassos Philological Association.

The exhibition breathes new life into archival traces, family heirlooms, historical documents, everything that constitutes "breathing evidence". They themselves describe their work as a collection of memory fragments that are found and structured in an associative, personal and collective way.

The title of the exhibition, borrowed from an ancient Egyptian funerary text, a spell that gives the deceased the right to the afterlife, indicates the archival dimension of the work but also an internal contradiction. While Breath Evidences are breath evidences and create an opening to life, they also converse with the dead. In the surviving images collected and memorialized by Pasqua Borgia and Pavlos Physakis, the present and the past, the personal and the collective are inseparable.

A theoretically documented project. This "open file", as they call it, is divided into ten chapters (The Last Version, Chronos, Dream City, Denkraum, Logos, Pathos, Sacred & Profane, Pothos, Thanatos, The Afterlife) and refers to two unfinished projects of modernism : Walter Benjamin's Passagen-Werk (1927-40), a work on urban life in 19th-century Paris consisting of full and annotated quotations, and Aby Warburg's Bilderatlas Mnemosyne (1925-29), a visual encyclopedia intended in activating the viewer's memory and imagination, as well as understanding the "afterlife of antiquity".

Christoforos Marinos, art historian and curator, mentions, among other things, in his note in the edition accompanying the exhibition: "The "Evidences of Breathing" is an eminently assimilative work. It does not refer to accomplished events. [...] The viewer is invited to navigate through the ten chapters of the exhibition making a convincing connection with these disparate images, a narrative that concerns him and with which he identifies. At the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete in Rethymno, where the exhibition was first presented in 2022, the viewer followed a path gradually discovering the images during his tour of the museum's halls. In Parnassos, an alternative version is presented, which takes into account the aesthetics and history of the exhibition space. Now you have the opportunity to see the images gathered, as part of a private art gallery, which is a remnant of a dream world. [...]"
